Our trawlers fish off the coast of Denmark, using nets that leave the seabed untouched. This allows the fish to be caught calmly and then processed painlessly. Good for the fish and for the quality on your plate!

The Ekofish Group fleet consists of seven modern trawlers, all equipped for twin-rig fishing. During the high season, the trawlers mainly fish for plaice. In the winter season, the fishing plan is adjusted and plaice is no longer targeted. This is beneficial for the fish stock, but also for the quality of the fish.

Ekofish Group fishes with respect for fish stocks, the environment, and ecology. The trawlers operate off the coast of Denmark and further north. The seabed in that area is highly suitable for twin-rig fishing.

Thanks to the twin-rig method, the fishing nets no longer pass over the seabed.

As a result, life on the seabed remains untouched. Small vibrations from the rubber cables cause the plaice to lift off the bottom and enter the nets. Because of the low fishing speed, the caught fish is of excellent quality and there is very little bycatch. Young, undeveloped fish can escape immediately through the large mesh size of the nets.

Ekofish Group takes concrete measures to guarantee the quality of the fish caught. Immediately after the catch, the fish is stunned and cooled in ice water, allowing processing on board to take place in a painless and animal-friendly way. The fish is stored on board in crates of twenty kilos. These small crates ensure faster cooling, less pressure on the fish, and therefore optimal quality.

The Ekofish Group fleet is the only one that sorts and processes its catch directly from the ship into the factory. Thanks to the short fishing trips and quick processing on board, Ekofish Group fish is consistently of high and fresh quality. In the near future, you as a consumer will be able to see where Ekofish Group fish was caught via a QR code. A reassuring thought!
