2017-2018: New construction for the Ekofish Group

Ekofish Group has a special project in the pipeline: the new construction of the UK 105. This ship is full of innovations, such as an electric main engine supplemented by three generator sets. ”We benefit here from developments in the auto industry when it comes to batteries. Our winches run on electricity and also the ship can run entirely on electricity, for example, when entering the harbor. The generators supply power based on demand, and in practice, often no more than two generators will run,” said Louwe de Boer of Ekofish.

Futuristic design

The design for the UK 105 is entirely new, with futuristic looks. The 470 GT vessel has striking lines and a sharp bow that cuts through the waves, but again does not dive too much into them. Compared to Ekofish Group’s current vessels, the engine power has been reduced by 30 to 40 percent to a 1,000 kW, allowing for savings in fuel consumption. Another innovation is that when the fishing lines are cast out, the energy released is recovered and stored in the batteries. The processing of fish on board is further fully automated, this cuts processing time in half and this benefits quality.
